Types of wheel weights

Wheel weights are small metal devices that attach to the rim of your vehicle to balance the tire-wheel assembly. There are two main types of wheel weights: clip on wheel weights and adhesive wheel weights.

Types of wheel weights

Clip On wheel weights

These wheel weights clip onto the outer edge of the rim where it meets the tire. They are commonly used on steel wheels and are the industry standard for balancing. Clip-On wheel weights are available in a variety of materials including coated steel wheel weights, lead wheel weights, zinc wheel weights.

Adhesive wheel weights

These wheel weights are installed using a strong glue and are commonly used on alloy wheels. You can't see them unless you look behind the wheel. Adhesive wheel weights look cleaner than clip on wheel weights.

There are a few things to keep in mind when using wheel weights:

1.The profile of the clip on wheel weights should match the profile of the rim flange.
2.Some wheels have rim flanges that are only for decoration and are not suitable for clip on wheel weights.
3.Rim flanges that are less than 3/16 inches deep should use bonded wheel weights.
4.Always use coated wheel weights.
5.Check that the gap between the brake caliper and the wheel weight is at least 1/8 inch.
6.Wheel balancing weights should be installed by a professional technician.
7.Using the wrong wheel weights can damage your vehicle or affect steering or braking operation.
